Ms. Varley currently holds the position of third horn with the Fresno Philharmonic and is also an Associate Member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. In California Lauren has also performed with the Napa Valley, North State, Monterey, Santa Rosa and San Francisco Symphonies. Lauren has spent summers at Bar Harbor Brass, Sewanee and Aspen Music Festival and School.
Ms. Varley was a brass instructor in the San Francisco public schools, coaching chamber music ensembles and teaching private and group high brass lessons. Lauren also maintains a private teaching studio.
An advocate of contemporary music, Lauren has performed with San Francisco Conservatory’s New Music Ensemble, The BluePrint project and has performed and recorded with California based Ensemble Parallele; ensembles dedicated to promoting and commissioning works of living composers. Ms. Varley was selected to perform at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, representing San Francisco Conservatory as part of “The Conservatory Project” recital series.
A native of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania, Lauren received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Boyer College of Music at Temple University where she was a student of former Philadelphia Orchestra fourth horn Adam Unsworth. Ms. Varley received her Master of Music degree from San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a student of Robert Ward, principal horn of the San Francisco Symphony.
