Harpsichordist and pianist Gabriel Shuford has performed with a diverse range of ensembles including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, L’Opéra Français de New York, Stony Brook Baroque Ensemble, and the Furious Band. An accomplished soloist, he was awarded top-prize at the 6th International Mae and Irving Jurow Harpsichord Competition in 2007 and has performed J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 with New Jersey’s Colonial Symphony. The New York Times called his performance of Elliot Carter’s Sonata, with the acclaimed new music ensemble Speculum Musicae, “assured, polished and beautifully nuanced.” His ongoing collaborations include work with baroque violinist Kathleen Kajioka, bassist/viola da gambist Nicholas Walker, and recorder player Paul Leenhouts.

Gabriel pursues a varied musical life ranging from the bluegrass and pop influences of Stolen Shack, featured on NPR, to the free improvisations of Jupiter Sextant, his latest project with saxophonist Lars Jacobsen. He holds degrees from Lawrence University, and Stony Brook University where he earned is Doctorate in Early Music.
