In demand as a choral clinician and guest conductor, Dr. Peter recently led All-State choirs in Minnesota, Colorado, North and South Dakota, honor choirs in New York, Virginia, Wisconsin and Illinois, and a choral/orchestral performance in Carnegie Hall. Upcoming engagements include the Concert Choir of the 2009 Lutheran Summer Music Academy, and festival performances in Orchestra Hall, Chicago and the Sydney Opera House, Australia.
Conducted by Sandra Peter since 1992, Aurora has performed at several regional conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, and premiered works by Libby Larsen, Kevin Isaacs, Carol Barnett and Abbie Betinis. Aurora’s first CD, Finding a Voice, was released in 2006.
Dr. Peter is a charter member of The National Collegiate Choral Organization, and an active member of College Music Society and the American Choral Directors Association. She has been invited to speak at national meetings of both NCCO and ACDA. She is also a published arranger with the Neil Kjos Company.
Her work as a church musician includes many years leading choirs of all ages, currently conducting Cantate (5th through 8th grade) and the Chancel Choir (9th grade through adult) of First Lutheran Church in Decorah. She was also a founding member of the National Lutheran Choir in Minneapolis under the direction of Larry L. Fleming.
Dr. Peter holds degrees from Concordia College (Moorhead, MN), the University of Arizona, and the University of Iowa. Her conducting mentors include Jan Gilbertson, Paul J. Christiansen, William Hatcher and Timothy Stalter.
