Dr. Sandra Peter is an Assistant Professor of Music at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, where she directs Cathedral Choir (90 sophomores, mixed voices) and Aurora (100 first-year women). She also teaches introductory and advanced choral conducting.
Active as a choral clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor, she recently led All-State choirs in Minnesota, Colorado and North Dakota, honor choirs in New York, Wisconsin and Illinois, and a festival choral/orchestral performance in Carnegie Hall. 2007-08 engagements include South Dakota ACDA All-State Honor Choir, All-County Treble Honor Choir in Prince William County, VA, and the Lake Conference Treble Choir Festival in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
Dr. Peter has been involved in several recent commissions and premieres, collaborating with composers such as Libby Larsen, Edie Hill, Kevin Isaacs, Carol Barnett and Abbie Betinis. Dr. Peter is also a published arranger with the Neil Kjos Company. Dr. Peter is a charter member of The National Collegiate Choral Organization, and an active member of College Music Society and the American Choral Directors Association.
Conducted by Sandra Peter since 1992, Aurora has performed at three regional conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and will do so once again this spring in Fargo, North Dakota. They released their first CD, Finding a Voice, in 2006.
Her work as a church musician includes many years conducting adult, children’s, and high school choirs, currently conducting Cantate (5th through 8th grade) and co-directing the Chancel Choir of First Lutheran Church in Decorah with her husband, Dr. Timothy Peter. She was also a founding member of the National Lutheran Choir in Minneapolis under the direction of Larry L. Fleming.
