Frederick Nyline, professor of music at Luther conducts the Luther College Concert Band, Varsity Band, and the Wind and Percussion Ensemble. He also teaches advanced instrumental conducting. Before joining the Luther faculty in 1973, Nyline served on the faculty of the University of Minnesota as associated director of bands and director of the University Men’s Chorus. He has been a guest faculty member at the University of Illinois, and director of bands in the Austin, Minn., school system. Most recently he has served as guest conductor for the Musashino Academia Musicae Wind Ensemble in Tokyo Japan five times for three months at a time during the past fourteen years.

Nyline has served as festival director, guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Pacific Rim, including such locations as Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, Okinawa, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Under Nyline’s direction, the Concert Band has performed at numerous state and national music conventions, has participated in yearly Midwest tours, two European tours, two extended tours of the West Coast and Hawaii, and three tours of Japan which also included Hong Kong and the China mainland. The Band will once again tour Japan and China at the conclusion of the 2005 school year.
