An experienced teacher and performer, Mr. Mariani serves on the faculties of Luther College and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. As a performer, Mr. Mariani is currently a member of the Cedar Rapids Symphony and has been a member of many orchestras, most recently including the Las Vegas Philharmonic and the Nevada Chamber Symphony. He has also distinguished himself as a bass instructor as many of his students have won and placed in regional, national, and international competitions including the International Society of Bassists Solo Competition.

Mr. Mariani has taught public school orchestra at all levels and is the former musical director of the Greater Cedar Rapids Youth Orchestra. His teaching experience includes working with students of diverse socio-economic backgrounds – including schools labeled “at risk,” and his middle and high school orchestras consistently received superior ratings at district and regional festivals. A strong advocate for music education, he established three new public school string programs in Las Vegas, Nevada and is currently involved teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater String Academy.

Mr. Mariani’s Double Bass teachers include Volkan Orhon and Stuart Sankey. He studied orchestral conducting with William Jones and participated in conducting master-classes and clinics with Marvin Rabin, and Henry Smith. His string pedagogy studies were with Dean Angeles, Robert Culver, William Jones, Marvin Rabin, Terry Shade, and Richard Stephan.
