Jacob Lassetter, baritone, is a native of San Antonio, Texas.  His warm baritone voice and charismatic stage presence are increasingly in demand in both the operatic and concert repertoire.  Critics hailed his recent performance as baritone soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9 with The Lexington Philharmonic, proclaiming that his “ringing clarion call was as true as a trumpet’s.”  Of his performance in Orff’s Carmina Burana critics wrote that he “negotiated extreme high ranges with a richness of tone that beggars the imagination.”

Dr. Lassetter’s operatic credits include the title role in Don Giovanni, Griswold in Argento’s The Voyage of Edgar Allan Poe, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Germont in La Traviata, Zuniga in Carmen, Frank in Die Fledermaus, and Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte.  He made his Italian debut at the Teatro Accademico in Castelfranco Veneto singing Germont in La Traviata.  He is a former member of the Young Artists Programs of Chautauqua Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, and Utah Festival Opera.  At Utah Festival Opera he covered the title roles of both Rigoletto and Elijah, as well as the role of Marcello in La Bohème.  Dr. Lassetter received the encouragement award from the Southern Ohio District of The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.  He has been a finalist at The San Francisco Opera Center Auditions and a semi-finalist at the Austin Lyric Opera and Dallas Opera Guild competitions.

Dr. Lassetter has also been the featured soloist for various symphony organizations performing such works as Handel’s Messiah, Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine and Bach’s St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion, Christmas and Easter Oratorios and Missa Brevis in F.  He recently sang the title role of Delling in Eric Chasalow’s multimedia work The Puzzle Master at Grinnell College, Coe College, Luther College, and The University of Iowa.  An active recitalist, he recently made his New York City debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall.

Dr. Lassetter holds a Bachelor of Music degree, magna cum laude, from Louisiana State University, the Master of Music degree from The University of North Texas, and the Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.  Before joining the voice faculty at Luther College, he held teaching assistantships at The University of North Texas and The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
