Dr. James’s prior teaching experience includes five years at M-F-L Community School in Monona, Iowa; three years at Fife School District in Tacoma, Washington; and thirteen years at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Dr. James has extensive performing experience in chamber music, as a recitalist, and as principal bassoonist in orchestras. She has appeared as bassoon soloist with orchestras in Washington, Oregon, and Colorado, and she has served as a bassoon clinician and adjudicator. Her articles have been published in The Instrumentalist and The School Musician and Teacher.
Dr. James sings in Northern Lights Chorale and is an active member of First Lutheran Church where she sings in Chancel Choir. Her other interests include running, walking, golfing, quilting, knitting and reading.
