Concert Band
The Luther College Concert Band was formed in 1878, beginning the college’s
long-standing tradition of band excellence. Conducted by Frederick Nyline, the group is one of the oldest touring organizations in the nation and ranks among the country's outstanding college bands.
During its 125-plus years
of existence, Concert Band has enjoyed unrivaled performance opportunities
in the United States, Western Europe, and Japan. In 1993, 1997, 2001, and 2005 Concert Band visited Japan, performing around the country. These tours also included outlying performances in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing. The Concert Band will conduct its fifth tour of Japan in May 2010.
Concert Band has performed
in Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, New York; in Tivoli Garden, Copenhagen,
Denmark; and at the Bergen International Festival, Bergen, Norway. The band has been selected to appear at many state and national music conferences, including the National Association of College Band Directors Convention in Kansas City in 1991 and the North Central Music Educators National Conference in Minneapolis in 1993.
Auditions for Concert Band are held each semester.
