Minor
The music minor upholds Luther's commitment to liberal learning in the arts and sciences. Students, regardless of their major, are able to achieve a well-rounded education by completing courses in music theory, history, ear training, conducting, and applied music.

- One music history course
- 341 History of Music: Antiquity through 1750 4 hours
- 342 History of Music: The Classical Period 2 hours
- 343 History of Music: The Romantic Era 2 hours
- 344 History of Music: Contemporary 4 hours
- Four semesters of applied music study
- Four–five hours of electives including at least one course from the following, but not 273 Chamber Music or applied music:
- 231 Theory III 3 hours
- 236 Music, Worship and Culture 4 hours
- 237 Worship and Music in the Life of the Church 2 hours
- 247 History of Jazz 4 hours
- 248 World Music Cultures 4 hours
- 250 Introduction to Conducting 2 hours (encouraged)
- 272 Symphonic Music 2 hours

The student must also satisfy the ensemble requirement with four semesters of participation (or an approved equivalent) and fulfill the current recital attendance requirement during two of the semesters he/she is registered for private lessons.
