Tana Field, Faculty Voice
Tana Field, Luther College alumni guest lecturer in music, will present a faculty mezzo-soprano recital Wednesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. in the Noble Recital Hall.
Field will perform “Chansons de Bilitis” by Claude Debussy, “Shéhérazade” and “Chansons madécasses” by Maurice Ravel.
Luther faculty members Jessica Paul, piano, Carol Hester, flute, and Eric Kutz, cello, will accompany Field.
An active performer of oratorio, Field has appeared as a featured soloist with the Cincinnati Baroque Ensemble, the Lebanon Symphony and Chorus, Musica Sacra of Cincinnati, the Northern Kentucky Community Chorus, the Wright State University Choruses, the Milwaukee Opera Theatre, and the Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy.
Field’s operatic roles include the mother in “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” Dorabella in “Così fan tutte,” Mrs. Grose in “The Turn of the Screw,” Anna Maurrant in “Street Scene,” Florence Pike in “Albert Herring,” Nancy in “A Hand of Bridge,” La Ciesca in “Gianni Schicchi” and Suor Zelatrice in “Suor Angelica.” She also created the role of Bluma Gebirtig in the world premiere of Joel Hoffman’s “The Memory Game.”
In 2004, Field won the Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation’s Brena Hazzard and Sarah Eikenberry Voice Awards. She was a finalist in the 2006 and 2007 Regional Artists Competition of the Milwaukee Bel Canto Chorus.
Field holds the bachelor of arts degree from Luther. She holds the master of music and doctor of musical arts degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
