Luther College Cathedral Choir to perform Homecoming Concert April 7
Luther College’s Cathedral Choir will perform Tuesday, April 7, 7:00 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life.
The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Cathedral Choir will perform “Cantemus!” by Lajos Bárdos; “Cantate Domino” by Heinrich Schütz; “Christus factus est” by Felice Anerio; “Choral variations on ‘Ah, holy Jesus’” by Roger T. Petrich, based on the melody by Johann Crüger; “Be not afraid” by Knut Nystedt; “Holy, holy, holy” by Felix Mendelssohn; “Arise, shine” by Paul D. Weber; “Winds through the olive trees” arranged by Sandra K. Peter; “Light everlasting” by Olaf C. Christiansen; “Sleep” by Eric Whitacre; “Sure on this shining night” by Morten Lauridsen; “Afro-Celtic Diddle” by Michael Coolen; “Nelly Bly” by Stephen Foster, arranged by Jack Halloran and “Ain’-a that good news” arranged by William L. Dawson.
Cathedral Choir, conducted by Sandra Peter, is composed of 90 select sophomore singers and reflects a wide range of academic disciplines. Members are selected yearly by audition.
Cathedral Choir participates actively in campus worship, in the annual “Christmas at Luther” concerts in early December, and at several special events and concerts throughout the academic year. Cathedral Choir also tours annually throughout the Midwest.
Peter, an assistant professor of music at Luther, directs Aurora and Cathedral Choir and teaches introductory and advanced choral conducting.
Peter holds degrees from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., the University of Arizona, and the doctoral degree from the University of Iowa.
Active as a choral clinician and guest conductor, she recently led all-state choirs in Minnesota, Colorado, North Dakota and South Dakota. She also conducted honor choirs in New York, Virginia, Wisconsin and Illinois and a choral/orchestral performance in Carnegie Hall.
