Chamber Orchestra Concert
The Luther College Chamber Orchestra will perform in concert Sunday, April 19 at 4 p.m., in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall.
The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.
The orchestra will perform Suite No. 2 for small orchestra by Igor Stravinsky, “Serenade for Strings”, op. 20 by Edward Elgar, and Symphony No. 40 in G minor, KV 550 by Amadeus Mozart.
The Chamber Orchestra consists of select members of Symphony Orchestra and specializes in repertoire for small orchestra and mixed chamber ensembles ranging from the Baroque era to the twentieth century.
Conducted by Daniel Baldwin, the Chamber Orchestra performs with the Luther College Opera Workshop and Christmas at Luther, in addition to performing concerts twice a year.
Before joining the Luther faculty, Baldwin held conducting positions at Central Washington University, the Brevard (N.C.) Music Center and the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras. He holds the bachelor of music degree from Furman University and master of music and doctor of musical arts degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
He received his formal training in string pedagogy as a teacher in the nationally acclaimed University of Texas String Project. He conducted the Iowa All-State Orchestra in November 2009.
A 1991 conducting fellow of the Conductor’s Institute of the University of South Carolina and former cellist with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, Baldwin is a recipient of the Central Washington University Parents Association Excellence in Teaching Award.
