Cantorei and Philharmonia Concert

Cantorei and Philharmonia will present a concert Thursday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life.

The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Cantorei will perform “Gracious Spirit Dwell With Me” arranged by K. Lee Scott, with Luther junior Lindsey Palmer, organ; “Cantate Domino” by Heinrich Schutz, edited by Nancy Grundahl; “Psalm 100” by Rene Clausen with accompanists Luther senior Jeff Weston, string bass, Luther senior Simon Gustafson, percussion, Luther junior Nicole Gesch, flute, and Luther junior Alisyn Christensen, oboe.

The concert continues with “The Circles of Our Lives” by David Brunner, with Luther sophomore Jaye Hobart, piano; “E’en so, Lord Jesus Quickly Come” by Paul Manz; “Nada te turbe” by Joan Szymko, text by Saint Teresa of Avila; and “Living in a Holy City” by Stephen Hatfield with Gustafson, percussion.

Cantorei concludes their part of the concert with “Turn Around” by Alan Greene, Malvina Reynolds and Harry Belafonte, arranged by Rene Clausen, with Luther junior Alesha Arndt, piano; and “Good News” a spiritual arranged by John Helgen, with Arndt, piano.

Philharmonia will perform Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra by von Weber with faculty soloist Michael Chesher, clarinet; “Parto, parto, ma tu ben mio” by Mozart from La Clemenza di Tito with faculty soloists Beth Ray Westlund, mezzo-soprano, and Michael Chesher, clarinet; “Battalia” by Biber; and Overture to “Der Freischütz” by von Weber.

Conducted by Linda Martin, instructor in music, Cantorei is an auditioned choral ensemble of 60 women. The choir performs throughout the year at campus worship services and concerts, and at Christmas at Luther, Homecoming and Family Weekend.

The Luther Philharmonia, under the direction of Spencer Martin, associate professor of music, is an orchestra that performs regularly on campus in concert and in worship.
