Luther College to host Dorian Invitational Choral Festival and Concert

Luther College will host the Dorian Invitational Choral Festival and Concert Tuesday, April 7. Festival events will be held in the Center for Faith and Life.

The Dorian Invitational Choral Festival Concert will begin at 3:30 p.m. with performances by each of the five participating high school choirs.
Luther ensembles Aurora, Norsemen and Nordic Choir will present a short concert at 5 p.m.

The Festival concert will conclude at 5:30 p.m. with the massed high school choir singing “Afternoon on a Hill” by Eric Barnum and “Let All the World in Every Corner Sing” by Kenneth Pelmear, arranged by Paul Oakley.

The Festival concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Audience members are invited to stay and attend the Cathedral Choir Spring Tour Homecoming Concert at 7 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life.

Luther invites high school choirs to the campus each year for the festival. Throughout the day, the choirs are coached and rehearse under the direction of Craig Arnold, Luther professor of music and director of Nordic Choir. 

The choirs also participate in voice sectionals with Luther music faculty members Arnold; Timothy Peter, director of Norsemen and Collegiate Chorale; Sandra Peter, director of Aurora and Cathedral Choir; and Linda Martin, director of Cantorei.

Choirs attending the 2009 festival include West High School, Iowa City, Iowa, conducted by Ryan Person; Brainerd High School, Brainerd, Minn., conducted by Brian Stubbs; Armstrong High School, Plymouth, Minn., conducted by Stephanie Trump and Dale Kruse; Albert Lea High School, Albert Lea, Minn., conducted by Diane Heaney; and West Delaware High School, Manchester, Iowa, conducted by Duane Philgreen.
