Luther College’s Rolf Erdahl to give recital Feb. 15
Rolf Erdahl, Luther College music faculty member, will present an oboe and bass duet recital with Carrie Vechionne, Sunday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Jensen-Noble Music Hall.
The faculty recital is open to the public with no charge for admission.
The recital will feature some works written exclusively for the oboe and bass duo and several pieces from the duo’s debut CD “It Takes Two…” released last fall by Centaur Records.
The Vecchione/Erdahl Duo has created a varied, virtuosic and engaging repertoire of oboe and bass duo pieces. Sunday’s performance will include Edward Tulane’s Vignettes and Schubert’s “Trout” Variations, which were commissioned, composed and premiered within a space of two months by Tim Goplerud.
Erdahl has an active career as a recitalist, educator and orchestral musician. Together with his wife, oboist Carrie Vecchione, he performs recitals and presents educational programs around the country. In addition teaching at Luther, Erdahl is on the bass faculty at Gustavus Adolphus College and at the Lutheran Summer Music Festival held on the Luther campus. He also performs as a substitute bassist for the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Minnesota Opera.
Erdahl’s wife and duo partner, Carrie Vecchione, teaches at the MacPhail Center for Music, substitutes with the Minnesota Orchestra and appears as the principal oboe of the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra. She has soloed in the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall and performed at national conferences.
