Matthew Walker to perform at Luther College Feb. 7

Matthew Walker, trombonist, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus.

Walker will hold a masterclass Feb. 7, 9:40-10:30 a.m. in the Jensen-Noble Hall of Music. Both events are free and open to the public.

Matthew Walker started playing trombone at age 9 in Dubbo, in New South Wales, Australia. He finished high school at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 1985 and started the bachelor of music degree in 1987.

While working on the degree Walker won the Principal Bass Trombone position with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the resident orchestra of the Sydney Opera House.

Walker’s involvement in the Sydney music scene also included various recording situations for film soundtracks, advertisement jingles and other assorted projects, most notably the Australian National Anthem recording for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

As well as a busy playing schedule, Matthew runs a successful brass instrument repair business after attending Red Wing Technical College, 1998-19.

Matthew presently works for Greenhoe Custom Trombones in Jackson Wis, as a technician, designer and consultant.
