Luther College to host the 59th Annual Dorian Band Festival

Luther College will host two concerts Feb. 24 and 25 in
conjunction with the 59th annual Dorian Band Festival on the campus of
Luther College. Luther College Wind and Percussion Ensemble, Varsity Band, and Concert Band will perform a concert Sunday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life.

The Dorian Band Festival Grand Concert will be Monday, Feb. 25 at 6:30
p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life.

Both concerts are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Dorian Festival Grand Concert performing ensembles include the Dorian
select Symphonic Band under the direction of Frederick Nyline, Luther
professor of music, and the two Dorian Massed Bands under the directions of Michael Golemo from Iowa State University and Carolyn Barber from the University of Nebraska.

The ensembles are composed of the 625 high school students from
142 schools enrolled in the Dorian Band Festival. Students also have the
competitive opportunity to be selected as soloists.

The Dorian Band Festival brings to campus high school musicians
from Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska and California to study and
perform under college level instruction.

Dorian students have opportunities to both play and hear music
at a high quality of performance. Festival sessions include group
instruction, rehearsals, individual lessons with music faculty members,
auditions for solo performances and master classes, auditions for music
scholarships, and social and recreational activities.
