Luther College Pike Kor to perform at North Central American Choral Directors Association convention
FARGO, N.D. – Luther College Pike Kor, conducted by Sandra Peter, will present a program of choral repertoire for women at the North Central-American Choral Directors Association convention March 7 on the campus of North Dakota State University.
Pike Kor will present a 25-minute program beginning at 9 a.m. in the Festival Concert Hall of Reineke Fine Arts Center. The women’s chorus will also serve as the demonstration choir in two literature sessions in the Memorial Union.
Their repertoire includes the world premiere of “O frondens virga,” composed for Pike Kor by Kevin Jay Isaacs. They will also perform excerpts from Vivaldi’s “Magnificat RV610,” “Esto les digo” by Kinley Lange, “The womanly song of God” by Libby Larsen, “Hail! Christmas Day” by Abbie Betinis and “Will there really be a ‘morning’?” by Craig Hella Johnson.
The March 5-8 convention of the North Central-American Choral Directors Association will feature performances by outstanding choirs selected by audition recordings. Pike Kor was chosen on the basis of recordings from the previous three years.
Established in 1981, Pike Kor is one of seven choral ensembles at Luther. Conducted by Peter since 1992, the group is comprised of 100 first-year women, selected by audition.
Pike Kor performs on and off-campus for worship services, in the annual “Christmas at Luther” concert and Dorian Vocal Festival, and in a spring concert with the Norsemen, Luther’s choral ensemble for first-year men. The choir also participates in Luther performances of major choral/orchestral works, and has presented at several NC-ACDA conventions.
Pike Kor’s first CD, “Finding a voice,” was released in 2006.
Peter, an assistant professor of music at Luther, directs Cathedral Choir and Pike Kor and teaches introductory and advanced choral conducting.
Active as a choral clinician and guest conductor, she recently led all-state choirs and honor choirs in six states and a festival choral-orchestral performance in Carnegie Hall. Her 2007-08 engagements include honor choirs and festivals in South Dakota, Virginia and Minnesota.
