Luther College and St. Olaf men’s choruses to perform March 1

Minneapolis, MN - The Great Northern Union Chorus will present a collaboration concert March 1 featuring the best of the Midwest’s collegiate men’s choruses combining the Luther College Norsemen and St. Olaf Viking Chorus on stage in a first time joint concert.

The GNU concert performance is at 7:30p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 900 Stillwater Rd, Mahtomedi, Minn. Tickets are $22 and available online or by phone at 651-209-6689. Senior, student, and group discounts are available.

Joining the GNU in concert will be the Luther College Norsemen directed by Timothy Peter and The St. Olaf Viking Chorus directed by Christopher Aspaas. This will be the first time the collegiate groups perform together in concert.

Special musical guests include Men In Black the 2005 Barbershop Harmony Society Collegiate Quartet Champion. The quartet will hold a residency in the Twin Cites prior to the concert, visiting high schools and university choral ensembles.

The 250-voice concert finale will include a joint selection titled “Tribute To World Peace,” arranged by Jay Giallombardo. The finale will feature an octet and soloist from each college ensemble and will be supported by a combination of all three choruses.

Directed by Peter Benson the Great Northern Union Chorus was founded in 1985 and numbers 60 men from the Twin Cities region. GNU has been invited to perform at the American Choral Directors Association North Central Convention in Fargo, N.D. on March 8, 2008.
