The Luther College Epsilon Omega chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society will sponsor a “Guess the Composer” recital at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the campus of Luther College.
The performance is free and open to the public and will feature faculty performances by Amy Engelsdorfer, flute; Greg Peterson and Kathy Reed-Maxfield, harpsichord; and Brooke Joyce, piano, among others.
Audience members at the program will be asked to guess the composer and title of each piece performed. At the close of the recital, prizes will be awarded in various categories.
Pi Kappa Lambda is a national music honor society whose primary objective is the recognition and encouragement of the highest level of musical achievement and academic scholarship. Charters are granted to institutions that have a strong faculty, ample library facilities, and the best conditions for performance, study and practice.
Active since 1985, the Luther chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda consists of junior and senior music majors in the upper levels of their class who also demonstrate outstanding musical achievement.
Luther College is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the world with seven choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and nearly 1,000 student musicians.
Luther students perform in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 350 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, church music and performance.
