Luther College’s Kristen Wunderlich to give faculty voice recital Oct. 28

Kristen Wunderlich, Luther College alumni guest lecturer in music, will present a faculty voice recital Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.
    
The performance is free and open to the public.

The recital features 20th and 21st century works including works by Berg, Verdi, Bolcom, Montsalvatge and the Luther premiere of the song cycle, “The Prairie Sings” by composer Philip Wharton.

Wunderlich will be joined by local accompanist Yvonne Knoepfel and Luther music faculty member Marjorie Wharton on the piano.

Wunderlich holds bachelor of arts degree in music and English from Luther, the master of music in vocal performance and is currently working on the doctor of music degree at the University of North Texas.

Wunderlich has been a featured soloist with Texas Chamber Artists, Orchestra of New Spain, Helios Ensemble, Denton Bach Society and Williamsport Civic Orchestra. Her opera roles include Suor Angelica/Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni”, The Witch in “Hansel and Gretel”, Zita in “Gianni Schicchi”, Alice Ford in “Falstaff”, Dorabella in “Cosi fan Tutte” and Lady Billows in “Albert Herring.”

Wharton holds the bachelor’s degree in French from Luther, the master of the arts degree in French from Tulane University in New Orleans, and the doctor of musical arts degree in piano from the University of Iowa, Iowa City.
