Renowned violist to teach master class at Luther: Korey Konkol guest instructor Oct. 6

Award-winning violist Korey Konkol will be on campus Oct. 6 to teach a master class in viola at the Jenson-Noble Recital Hall, 4 p.m.

The event is open to the public and free of charge.

Four students of Spencer Martin, Luther assistant professor of music-viola, will perform during the master class.

Konkol will return to the Luther campus Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. to perform a recital.

Konkol has taught at the University of Minnesota since 1992.  He holds degrees from Western Illinois University and the New England Conservatory of Music.

Konkol has traveled throughout Europe, Latin, and South America in solo, chamber music, and orchestral performances.

He performs with the Minnesota Orchestra and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and has been the principal violist with the Ann Arbor, Peoria, and Knox-Galesburg Symphony Orchestras.

Konkol is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the 1997 McKnight Foundation Fellowship for Performing Artists, the 2006 William Primrose Artist of the Year award and the 2007 American Viola Society Founders Award.  

Martin studied under Konkol at the University of Minnesota while pursuing his doctor of music studies degree.

All area musicians and music enthusiasts are invited to attend the master class on Oct. 6 and the Feb. 17 recital.
