Luther’s Hindson to perform faculty recital Oct. 7

Harry Hindson, Luther College music faculty, will appear in recital Sunday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus.

The program is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Hindson will perform “Pulcinella,” by Eugene Bozza, a work for alto saxophone and piano. He will also perform Sonata for bassoon and piano by Seymour Barab, “Les Treteaux” for flute, alto saxophone and piano featuring Carol Hester, Luther professor of flute, and Sonata for alto saxophone and piano by David Maslanka.

Carol Rhodes, from the Viterbo University Department of music in La Crosse Wis. will accompany Hindson on the piano.

Hindson has extensive performing experience as a seven-year member of the US Navy Band, and as founder of the US Navy Band saxophone quartet.  He has soloed with bands and orchestras, conducted clinics and performed recitals since 1970.

He holds the bachelor’s degree in music from Luther, where he was band soloist in 1970. He holds the master of music degree from the University of Maryland-College Park, and the doctor of music arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He has taught at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Winona State University, Central and Logan High Schools in La Crosse, and Cotter High School in Winona, Minn.
