Heather Armstrong to give faculty oboe recital Sept. 29

Heather Armstrong, Luther College assistant professor of music, will present a faculty oboe recital Saturday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.    

The performance is free and open to the public.

The recital will feature a piece by Eugene Bozza, Andrea Clearfiels’s “Unremembered Wings” inspired by a Pablo Neruda poem, and “Trio for Oboe, Horn, and Piano” by Carl Reinecke.

Armstrong will be joined by Luther music faculty members Jessica Paul, piano, and Stacie Mickens, french horn.

Armstrong holds the bachelor of music degree from Houghton College, the master of music and doctor of music degrees from the Eastman School of Music.
She has studied with Richard Killmer, Emily Agnew, Rachel Smith and Anna Hendrickson.

Armstrong has performed with the Southern Tier Symphony, Erie and Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestras, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Rochester Chamber Orchestra, and Equinox Symphony. In addition to teaching at Luther, she holds the second oboe position in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony.

Paul holds the bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, the master of music degree and doctor of musical arts degree from University of Illinois.  She is an associate professor of music serving as vocal coach, collaborative pianist and teacher of accompanying.

Mickens holds the bachelor’s degree from Luther and the master of music degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.  She teaches horn and brass methods.
