Luther’s Peterson to perform organ recital Sept. 9
Gregory Peterson, Luther College associate professor of music, will present an organ recital Sunday, Sept. 9, 4 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life in the Main Hall on the Luther campus.
The program is open to the public with no charge for admission.
The recital, titled “Through the Seasons with Dieterich Buxtehude: A 300th Anniversary Celebration” will include Praeludium in C Major, Toccata in D Minor, Ciacona in E Minor, Canzonetta in G Major, Praeludium in G Minor and several pieces based on familiar Lutheran hymns from the Reformation period.
Peterson received the bachelor’s degree in music from Luther. He holds the master of music from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and the doctor of musical arts in organ performance and pedagogy from the University of Iowa.
At Luther, Peterson teaches applied organ and church music. He also plays daily and Sunday chapel at Luther’s Center for Faith and Life. As a frequent soloist, Peterson has given recitals in the Memorial Music Hall, Methuen Mass.; Riverside Church, New York City; Berlin Cathedral, St. Anne’s Church, Warsaw; St. Thomas Church, Leipzig and the Uppsala Cathedral, Sweden.
